Bernard Butler, "Evermore"
(2001)

Since you been gone, not much has changed
We got married, still feel the same
We don't feel older, we don't feel tired
We look to each other and hold on tight
Shook out the mats, cleaned out the drawers
Opened the windows, scrubbed all the floors
Watched all the jets glide over our heads
The sun went down and the sky turned red

"Without the pain there's no gain"
Is what you said
Now I love you a little bit more
Give me a ring and a minute
And I won't complain
If you love me evermore
Evermore

Six years have gone, so much has changed
We got children, she just couldn't wait
But we got restless, I must confess
Went looking for pleasure, you know the rest
Everyone I knew then was blind
They took the wrong roads, misread the signs
Watched all the jets glide over our heads
She told me I've always been easily led

"Without the pain there's no gain"
Is what you said
Now I love you a little bit more
Give me a ring and a minute
And I won't complain
If you love me evermore
Evermore

"Without the pain there's no gain"
Is what you said
So I came running back for more
"Without the pain there's no gain"
Is what you said
Now I love you evermore
"Without the pain there's no gain"
Is what you said
Now I love you a little bit more
Give me a ring and a minute
And I won't complain
If you love me evermore
"Without the pain there's no gain"
Is what you said
Now I love you a little bit more
"Without the pain there's no gain"
Is what you said
Now I love you evermore

Bernard Butler and David McAlmont fell out spectacularly in 1995, and when they reunited years later, this was among the first demos that Butler sent. McAlmont took the music and turned it into "Bring It Back", and the subjects of both songs are too similar and affectionate to not be included here. Aww, rock love!
